The House of Brews is a local place where friends gather to enjoy a bite to eat, share great company and to truly experience specialty beers & boutique wines.
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew.
Choklat Oranj is a stout brewed with chocolate and orange peels, opaque black in color, 10.0% abv, and a delicious dessert beer. Perfect alone, or enjoyed as a float. Scoop vanilla bean ice cream into a glass and top with Choklat Oranj. It’s impossible to be disappointed.
Quiet and sensual like a moonlit night, this complex blend of toasted oats, roasted barley, chocolate wheat malt and dark roast coffee imparts an intense aroma and complex flavor profile. We brew a traditional English style oatmeal stout with a rich malt profile, then add locally roasted coffee while this ale is cold conditioned.
Black as night, this coffee stout is thick, rich and full of real coffee flavor. Brewed with a special blend of beans from all over the world developed and roasted specifically for Terrapin by our friends at Jittery Joe’s Coffee right here in Athens, GA. This unique blend of coffee produces a robust and flavorful beer that will leave you asking “Why not Beer?” for breakfast! Coffee: Premium blend of Costa Rican, Guatemalan, & Zimbabwe
A decidedly American imperial stout with espresso. The coffee notes in Stone Americano Stout are bold, rich and full of American swagger. For each 120-barrel batch, we incorporated over 250 lbs. of artisanal espresso-roast beans into the mash and added in Columbus, Chinook, Amarillo and Cascade hops to invigorate the coffee taste with a slight citrus and resin hop presence. When it came time to selecting our coffee, we chose the same local roasters who contributed to our sought-after 2013 Stone ESPRESSO Imperial Russian Stout. Their fantastic beans helped us achieve this dark, hoppy and wonderfully aromatic espresso stout.
A brown ale that pours dark brown/ruby in color. Seven different types of malt are used, lending to a rich diverse flavor profile.
Zombie Killer Cherry Cyser is made with Michigan tart cherry juice, apple cider and star thistle honey. It is sweet but balances nicely with the tart cherries. Be careful...it is extremely addicting and refreshing. Serve cold...Zombies hate the cold!
Our Ace Pineapple is another first [thirst] for the California Cider Company. We believe it to be the original pineapple cider made anywhere in the world! We add pineapple juices to our fermented apple base to produce a 5% ABV cider that has a great pineapple nose and a semi-sweet initial taste with a tart finish. It is extremely refreshing and very quaffable for cider, beer, or wine drinkers. It is delicious when consumed ice cold. We got the idea for the cider on one of our many visits to the beautiful and inspiring Hawaiian Islands. It’s the ideal tropical drink especially in hot and humid climates.
Stella Artois Cidre is a crisp and refreshing Belgian recipe cider crafted with handpicked apples*. The sophistication of Stella Artois Cidre is delivered by the full flavour of red apple, enhanced by peachy, apricot notes, complimented by the woody finish. Stella Artois Cidre is best enjoyed within the new curvaceous Cidre Chalice – designed to keep your Cidre cool and accentuate the sparkle of our Belgium recipe.
Aroma of fresh apple pie. Taste is just like an apple pie with cinnamon, pie crust and nutmeg. Gold pour, light head. Sweet and well balanced.
Peach InCider is a semi-sweet cider balanced with a hint of honey… The yeast used for this has subtle notes of nectarine and tangerine.
Naturally elegant and refreshingly adult with a sweet-sharp blackberry tang and mouthwatering juicy complexity, complemented by a luscious pear-berry bouquet. Naturally fermented using 100% pear juice, not from pear juice concentrate, or flavored hard apple cider. Filtered cold for extra purity, with no added colorants, sugar, sorbate or benzoate preservatives. No added malt, spirit, grape or apple alcohols.
Not another boring summer wheat beer or lemonade shandy—Rübæus is Founders’ way to celebrate the season’s warmest months. Optimizing the flavor of fresh raspberries added at multiple stages during fermentation, this stunning berry red masterpiece is the perfect balance of sweet and tart. No question about it, this beer is 100% Founders.
An interesting NITRO push to our trophy beer! A trophy beer that’s a testament to our homebrew roots. Our Sculpin IPA is a great example of what got us into brewing in the first place. After years of experimenting, we knew hopping an ale at five separate stages would produce something special. The result ended up being this gold-medal winning IPA, whose inspired use of hops creates hints of apricot, peach, mango and lemon flavors, but still packs a bit of a sting, just like a Sculpin fish.
Produced in the tradition of 18th Century English brewers who supplied the court of Russia's Catherine the Great, Old Rasputin seems to develop a cult following wherever it goes. It's a rich, intense brew with big complex flavors and a warming finish. The Old Rasputin brand image is a drawing of Rasputin with a phrase in Russian encircling it—A sincere friend is not born instantly.
Double Milk Stout "2 varieties of hops & 3 types of malts" Milk stout, also called ‘cream’ or ‘sweet’ stout, is a stout containing lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Because lactose is unfermentable by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body to the finished beer. Milk stouts have been claimed to be nutritious, and were marketed as such in the early 1900s with claims that would make the FDA wince. One ad read, “Ideal for nursing mothers, for the healthy, for the invalid, and for the worker.” Surely! Of course, we couldn’t stop at a traditional milk stout. Ours is a double, an addition to our 2X line, and at 7.5% abv is every bit as delicious as it sounds. To your health!
Our sparkling Belgian Style Farmhouse Ale is wine barrel-aged with an abundance of hand-zested orange peel. Spicy white pepper notes contrast the citrus tartness. The light, refreshing, creamy vanilla finish will excite those fond of Champagne. Originally brewed by Belgian farmers to attract the best farm hands, we were inspired to brew an exceptional ale as inviting as the original Belgian Farmhouse ales. Light and effervescent, we named it for our founder’s granddaughter Sofie.
Inspired by great Trappist ales, our complex Belgian Style Pale Ale is fermented with the wild yeast Brettanomyces. Matilda pours a golden sunrise color with dried fruit and clove aromas, a spicy yeast flavor, and a satisfying dry finish. According to legend, a grateful Countess Matilda founded a monastery where, over centuries, monks have been brewing ale unique in character. While in Belgium, we were inspired by the story and the monks’ beer. We returned to Chicago and brewed our homage – a Belgian Style Pale Ale named Matilda.
America's First Trappist Beer Our recipe was inspired by the traditional refectory ales known as patersbier (“fathers’ beer” in Flemish) in Belgium. These sessionable beers are brewed by the monks for their dinner table and are typically only available at the monastery. Spencer is a full-bodied, golden-hued ale with fruity accents, a dry finish and light hop bitterness. The beer is unfiltered and unpasteurized, preserving live yeast that naturally carbonates the beer in the bottle and keg and contributes to the beer flavor and aroma.
"This Golden Belgian Style Ale matured for over a year on brett in Cabernet and Merlot barrels, then was blended with a bright, citrusy hop-forward Belgian Style IPA. Four plus two equals seven here, as the finished product is bigger than the sum of its parts. The art of this crafted cuvee is in the hop profile with a Belgian style nose up front, followed by woody undertones and a complex finish. After 19 years we’re still all about brewing great beer, supporting the communities who drink it and having a kick ass time along the way."
The particular character and the unique taste of "Delirium Tremens" result from the use of three different kinds of yeast. Feels like the sound shot of alcohol is igniting the mouth. In reality the tongue and palate are warmed. The taste is characterized by its roundness. The aftertaste is strong, long-lasting and dry bitter.
Grand Cru by RODENBACH has on average been left for much longer in the oak casks (“foeders”) of the Roeselare “beer cathedral”, which results in a more pronounced version of the “Flanders Red-Brown Beer” style. RODENBACH Grand Cru consists of 1/3 young beer and 2/3 beer matured two years in oak. The result is a complex beer with a great deal of wood and esters, vinous and with a very long aftertaste, just like a Grand Cru wine.
Aged? Many beers have a long maturation, but this one has only 24-36 months in oak barrels. Pale? This beer has an old gold to bronze color, rather than the burgundy more common in the breweries of West Flanders. This is the ‘mother beer,’ used in various quantities to blend with the other Petrus beers, and to give them their unique and very distinctive taste. This mother beer is rather sour with a bite like the best Brut Champagnes. A connoisseur’s delight! The only one of its kind on the U.S. market.
Up The Creek is a hoppy behemoth of a beer with its 12.5% ABV well hidden under heavy layers of malt. The hops come through powerfully in the mouth, with rich roasted malt, sweet caramel, and a burst of vinous fruit. The finish is malty sweet and fruity, while the hops dissipate. Use caution or you’ll be Up The Creek!
This oak-aged hybrid has been gaining popularity over the past few years and is now available year-round. For Burton Baton, we brew two "threads," or batches, of beer: an English-style old ale and an imperial IPA. After fermenting the beers separately in our stainless tanks, they're transferred and blended together in one of our large oak tanks. Burton Baton sits on the wood for about a month. When enjoying the Burton Baton, you'll find an awesome blend of the citrus notes from Northwestern hops melding with woody, vanilla notes from the oak. The wood also tends to mellow the 10% ABV of Burton, so tread cautiously!
An unfiltered, unfettered, unprecedented brown ale aged in handmade wooden brewing vessels. The caramel and vanilla complexity unique to this beer comes from the exotic Paraguayan Palo Santo wood from which these tanks were crafted. Palo Santo means "holy tree," and its wood has been used in South American wine-making communities.
Seven Hells! Seven Kingdoms Hoppy Wheat Ale, the newest beer in the Game of Thrones series. Seven Kingdoms is a marriage of a traditional Belgian-style wheat and a hop-forward American ale – but unlike so many of the marriages on the show, the resulting hoppy wheat is pleasant, playful and inspired. Seven Kingdoms harmoniously weds citrusy and herbal American hops, with wheaty maltiness and moderate bitterness.
Our cult-classic beast of a barleywine. Bigfoot is a beast of a beer, brimming with bold flavors of bittersweet malt and heaps of aggressive whole-cone Pacific Northwest hops. First introduced in the winter of 1983, Bigfoot is a cult-classic beer brewed in the barleywine style, meaning a strong, robust, bruiser of a beer with the refined intensity of a wine. Bigfoot is prized by beer collectors for its supreme cellarability.
This is our firstborn brew, whose accidental discovery started our story in 2003. Its originality also lies in its singular taste – notes of biscuity malt and vanilla swirling within a creamy, mellow character. A pioneering beer, its flavour finds favour with brewing juries, blind tasting panels and barflies alike.
Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. With a little creative curiosity, we used spent bourbon casks, fresh from decanting, and filled them with our very own Kentucky Ale. From barrels that once held the finest bourbons of Kentucky, we present Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, a smooth, golden elixir unlike any other. Subtle yet familiar flavors of vanilla and oak are imparted to this special ale as it rests in the charred barrel. We attribute this to what the bourbon maker calls the “angel’s share”. Elegantly smooth and modestly carbonated, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale is a fine sipping ale with the distinctive nose of a well-crafted Kentucky bourbon.
Kasteel Rouge is a unique blend of Kasteel Donker and a sweet cherry liqueur. This fruity beer makes a great aperitif on a sunny terrace. It’s certainly a beer for lovers of sweet cherries with an overpowering aroma of the fruit. The cherries get the better of the malt in the Kasteel Donker mother beer, although it contributes touches of chocolate and pepper to remind you it’s there. It is surprisingly easily digestible for quite a strong beer.
St-Louis Premium Framboise is a frambozenbier, or raspberry beer, based on a lambic. St-Louis Premium Framboise contains 25% juice from Willamette raspberries with their pure, natural sugars. It is a thirst-quencher with a low alcohol content. It’s a very fruity beer with a beautiful balance between the sweet taste of the raspberries and the slightly sour taste of the lambic.
As its name suggests, Éphémère is an ephemeral ale that comes and goes with the seasons. It was developed as a series to feature a seasonal fruit in a refreshing, lightly spiced white ale. Nose: Flowery bouquet, red berries, barley sugar, rye bread. Flavor: Delicate cranberry flavor, sweetness-acidity balance of berries.
Classic German Kolsch. Delicately balanced golden ale brewed with German Noble hops.
Enjoyment of first-rate beer with a pleasant hoppy character. Straw-colored and warm amber glow, pleasantly sparkling with a dry body. Using the aromatic hops from the Mühlviertel region, it entices you with a bouquet of fresh hops and a distinctive bitter finish.
Originally brewed in Key West, The Florida Beer Company continues to carry on the tradition of brewing the beer of the "Conch Republic". Key West Sunset Ale is an American medium-bodied amber ale with a tropical twist. Brewed with 2-row and caramel malts, blended with First Gold, Chinook and Mount Hood hops, to create a crisp, satisfying taste.
A perfectly crafted American Wheat Ale, that gives your fun in the sun day and everyday the drinkability it's always needed. Just add a key lime and this brew is perfectly paired with light seafood & poultry. The American hop varieties will impart a mild spice note and a subtle island citrus character. Great to pair with your catch of the day.
This is a truly special brew and a Southampton original. It is a “double strength” or “double gravity” version of a classic Belgian-style white ale. White Ales (or Witbiers) are called white because their light color and cloudy appearance make them appear almost white. They are unfiltered wheat-based brews with a unique citrus and spice character that comes from the use of orange peel and ground coriander seed in the brewing process. Southampton Double White honors the original Belgian white ale style, but it has a little more of everything— more complex orangey/citrusy fruitiness, a slightly fuller body, more alcohol and a more satisfying finish. It’s delicate, balanced and every bit as refreshing as the original style, but more intense.
Pours silky black with a creamy tan head. The nose is sweet with strong chocolate and caramel malt presence. No absence of hops gives Founders’ robust porter the full flavor you deserve and expect. Cozy like velvet. It’s a lover, not a fighter.
So good it’s almost wrong. Dark ruby in color and brewed with seven varieties of imported malts. Complex in finish, with hints of smoke and peat, paired with a malty richness and a right hook of hop power to give it the bad attitude that a beer named Dirty Bastard has to live up to. Ain’t for the wee lads.
You're not worthy This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory—may something with a multimillion-dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it’s made in a little brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless fizzy yellow beer will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multimillion-dollar ad campaigns make a beer taste better. Perhaps you’re mouthing your words as you read this.
More Moro Blood Orange IPA is back! We ceremoniously slaughtered heaps of crimson-fleshed “Moro” fruit to retrieve its delicious ichor, and then blended it with caramel malts and grapefruity hops to produce the sticky, citrus blast that we crave. Oranges: you’re on notice. (A Moro, by the way, is an American varietal of blood orange that has deep, crimson red flesh and an intense citrus flavor. Expect an overload of ripe, fresh citrus on the nose. The flavor is deeply citrusy and fruity, with notes of pineapple and tangerine. A sticky, caramel-laden malt body compliments the fleshy fruit, followed by a long, grapefruit-inflected hop finish. We suggest you drink it fresh.)
MEET YOUR NEW WINGMAN If you’re looking for hops, we’ve got your tail. Hop Gun IPA delivers a payload of good ol’ American hops straight to your pallet, bursting forth with the flavors of grapefruit and pineapple. A careful dose of smooth caramel malts swoop in to balance out the finish — just like any good wingman should.
Redhook Game Changer Ale is a sessionable ale with rich color to distinguish it as craft, just enough hops to cut the spiciness of wings or chili, and the right amount of malt to cool the burn.
The Calling is the result of several months of hard (delicious) work by our brewing team who sought to create an IPA with a juicy, tropical fruit aroma that leaps from the glass. A simple malt base composed solely of our two row base malt serves as a platform for giant, punchy hop flavor and aroma provided by a blend of Simcoe, Bravo, Topaz, Cascade, Mosaic, Equinox, Galaxy, and Amarillo hops. Read that sentence again. We are not messing around here, folks. The Calling also receives an addition of lemon peel during the last five minutes of the boil to add an extra citrusy punch. At 8.5 ABV and 75 IBU, The Calling is the IPA we knew we had to brew.
471 is a small batch, limited edition ale that was created by our Brewmaster to separate the weak from the strong. 471 is a double IPA, that combines Pale, Munich, Caramel-30, Carapils and Torrified Wheat malts, with Chinook, Centennial, Simcoe and Fuggles hops. It has a big sweet mouthfeel, followed by more hoppiness than you've ever had at one time. Enjoy.
To our hop ranchers, who coax and cultivate our enticing and flavorful hops, we raise this glass. Selecting the finest varieties in their natural, whole flower form, we craft our Hop Ranch Imperial India Pale Ale, as a celebration of their successes. Pungent, floral and intense, this represents America’s best in every relaxing sip. This powerful brew features full, juicy hop character, while expressing notes of mango, pineapple and the pleasantly sharp, biting edges of tart citrus.
Our award-winning IPA, with a citrus twist. Our Grapefruit Sculpin is the latest take on our signature IPA. Some may say there are few ways to improve Sculpin’s unique flavor, but the tart freshness of grapefruit perfectly complements our IPA’s citrusy hop character. Grapefruit’s a winter fruit, but this easy-drinking ale tastes like summer.
Our India Pale Ale recalls a time when ales shipped from England to India were highly hopped to preserve their distinct taste during the long journey. The result is a hop lover’s dream with a fruity aroma, set off by a dry malt middle, and long hop finish.
Detour blazes the trail for fresh and bold Double IPAs. Four varieties of hops combine to step up the flavor profile. A hoppy adventure that finishes dry. Big in alcohol and character.
Toasted, chocolaty dark malts align with an astronomical amount of hops. Named Utah's Centennial Star in 1996, Dubhe (pronounced Doo-bee) illuminates the front of the big dipper from 124 light years away. Dubhe, also known as Alpha Ursae Majoris, is a red giant that appears orange in color and has a mass 4x that of the sun.
We scraped all the hash out of the Yakima hop pelletizers we could get our sticky fingers on to concoct the dankest double IPA out there. The pure hop lupulin, aka “hash” (the resiny stuff), meshes seamlessly with the 2-row, pilsner and wheat malts, allowing it to deliver a pungent punch to the palate.
SweetWater 420 Extra Pale Ale, our most popular brew, is a tasty West Coast Style Pale Ale with a stimulating hop character and a crisp finish. 1st brewed on April 20th 1997.
2016 One Hitter Series We took some fresh Sanguinello Blood oranges, juiced 'em, concentrated that juice (without heat) and threw it into a wheatier version of our New Dogtown Pale Ale. The end result? A refreshingly hopped pale-ish ale with a huge citrus burst!
ADVENTUROUSLY HOPPY This Single Hopped Pale Ale is built on an English malt base of Golden Promise, 2-Row malted barley, and Caramalt to allow the hop qualities to shine through. Pacific Gem’s hop intensity presents top notes of pungent pine and grapefruit rind accented by guava with a long, lingering finish.
Exhilarating Ale We’ve kicked it up a notch by adding a tropical twist to this refreshing ale. Get amped on Passion Fruit Kicker—a jaw-dropping, mouth-watering, smooth brew with sweet, tart, fruity flavor. We layer passion fruit tea and passion fruit juice with wheat malt and 2-row malted barley to bring you this exhilarating crowd pleaser. Your palate will do a 360 for more of this luscious wheat ale.
Our Caramel Cream Ale was developed to showcase the wonderful caramel notes in dark crystal malts. In addition to the malt complexity and creamy mouthfeel, this beer finishes with a hint of vanilla. There are no substitutes for this very special American Ale. Interesting Fact: The unforgettable flavor of this beer is the result of 100′s of test brews to refine the recipe and method. Head brewer and brewery owner, Mike Halker, brewed this beer for his wife Jodi who, for 2 years, kept saying “almost” until he worked his magic and made it the beer it is today.
When you make a pot of coffee, but only use half the water, you get some pretty rich coffee. That’s the approach we took with our latest offering. OBP Squared, with half the water, has 11% alcohol by volume - twice that of original OBP. The result is a bold, distinct taste of its own. Made with twice as much real orange blossom honey, all-natural ingredients and no refined sugar, it really is the new king bee of beers.
This dark golden coloured ale hugs the palate with great intensity. Its malty aroma is complemented by the gentle nose of Banana. Its flavour unfolds with a sensual sparkle and a smart crispness, which balances its aroma perfectly. Tropically fruity; its ripe banana flavour, emphasised by a hint of bitterness, comes from the addition of real fair trade bananas and finishes with an emphatic, steely dryness.
Schöfferhofer Grapefruit is German ingenuity at its freshest. Sparkling smooth Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen beer mixed with grapefruit juice. A new taste sensation bundled with lots of flavor and fun. Crisp weiss beer with natural lemonade flavor. Our own unique take on Franz Kugler’s original Munich tavern tradition. Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy is our traditional weiss beer with refreshing natural lemonade flavor that makes it the perfect summer beer. As we like to say, it’s fresh-squeezed Wisconsin-brewed beer.
Our unique contribution to the fruit ale category features the nutty quench of wheat ale combined with the delightful aromatics and subtle fruit flavor contributed by Maine wild blueberries.
Abita Strawberry Harvest is a lager brewed with pilsner and wheat malts and Vanguard hops. Real Louisiana strawberry juice is added after filtration resulting in a crisp lager with a sweet strawberry flavor, aroma and haze.
Appearance: Brilliant, golden color with a light fluffy head. Aroma: Hints of sweet coconut, vanilla and caramel. Overall: Delicious sessionable beer with a nice balance between coconut and caramel sweetness.
When poured from the tap, the Coffee Blonde Ale has a deep gold color and thin, white head. The first thing you smell is a combination of richly roasted coffee followed by the slightest fragrance of hops.
A masterful brew of natural ginger and lime flavors in a low alcohol malt beverage. Cool lime, piquant ginger and a dry finish give Sprecher’s Hard Ginger Beer (4.7% abv) a crisp, refreshing drinkability that is perfect on its own.
NOT YOUR GRANDADDY'S ROOT BEER....OR IS IT? An adult version of our famous Root Beer with a kick, sure to please the bootlegger in you! Perhaps you would like to have a scoop of Ice Cream with yours?
Another throw-back to the standards of yesteryear, our cream soda is honey colored, not colorless or artificially red. Wisconsin honey and pure vanilla are carefully blended in a gas-fired kettle, creating a delicate caramelization of sugars that results in a fusion of flavor. This unique process produces a rich vanilla flavored soda with hints of honey and caramel and a long-lasting, creamy head.
Our gourmet Grape soda is nothing like you have ever had before. Sipping this yummy, purple concoction will remind you of bubbly summer days. Fire-Brewed to delicious perfection this blend of Concord grape juice and raw Wisconsin honey will have you swinging from the rafters with pure enjoyment.
